Thanksgiving

All about Thanksgiving 🦃

Thanksgiving in the United States falls on the fourth Thursday of November, so the date moves each year — anywhere from November 22 to November 28. That is exactly why a countdown helps: the calendar date is different every time.

It is a harvest and gratitude holiday built around a long meal with family, and it unofficially kicks off the winter holiday season the moment the leftovers go in the fridge.

How people celebrate Thanksgiving

• Roast turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pie
• Going around the table to say what you're thankful for
• Parades in the morning and football in the afternoon
• Traveling home — one of the busiest travel weekends of the year

Fun facts

• Thanksgiving became a fixed national holiday in the US in 1941.
• Canada celebrates its own Thanksgiving in October.
• Pumpkin pie only became a standard dessert in the 1800s.
